What do you like most about your work as a magician?

I like making people laugh and conveying to them a sense of wonder. Every gig I do is different, and in that sense my job remains interesting. Performing in the evenings also means that I can go shopping on Monday mornings and not worry about the weekend crush.

What do you think about famous magicians like Paul Daniels and David Copperfield?

I grew up watching Daniels on TV and am grateful to him for providing us with more hours of magic and guest performers than any other national television in the world could offer. He's a wonderful entertainer. I saw David Copperfield's show live for the first time at the end of 2001 and enjoyed it very much. He has honed his stage character to perfection over a period of many years.

What do you do during the daytime?
Practise, perform at trade exhibitions and develop concepts for magical performance!

What is the most unusual performance situation you have encountered to date?

In 1994, whilst living and working in Japan, I was hired through an agency by the Japan Road Association to entertain drivers at a motorway services. I had to work on both sides of the motorway. So after each show, I went through a tunnel beneath the motorway to the other side. I have also had to work on a ski slope doing magic for spectators watching a downhill race.

Do you have any other interests besides magic?

Yes, I enjoy hiking, skiing, cycling and reading books that make me laugh out loud.

Can you make my wife disappear?
It's funny you mention that, because she asked me the same thing about you five minutes ago!
