1982-4 René decided he just had to continue
learning magic when Magic Circle member Malcolm
Dick, who also taught conjuring for the Duke of
Edinburgh's Award Scheme, made a coin disappear
and reappear from behind his ear. So René
decided to do his bronze award and was given personal
instruction in basic (close-up) magic skills as
part of the scheme. |

(first magic club in Islington) and first magic

Moved to Munich with his father. First paid performance
for Radio Corporation of America (RCA). Month-long
booking as strolling magician in theatre prior to
international magic show at the "Deutsches
Theater", Munich. |

Moved back to London to complete his A levels. Short-listed
for Central TV's "New Faces". First professional
close-up magic gigs. |

Joined British Actors Equity Association (incorporating
Variety Artistes' Federation). Began studying mime
with Lorna Marshall and attending physical theatre,

Studied BA (Honours) in modern languages at Thames
Valley University in Ealing. French, Spanish &
Latin American Politics. Ongoing close-up magic
engagements in London and the home counties and

Taverna" in Camberley, Surrey. Performed close-up
magic at Wembley Conference Centre, Jongleurs Comedy
Club and Kensington Roof Gardens and had a week-long
engagement at the international "Medica"
trade fair in Düsseldorf. |

Exchange student in Toulouse. Wrote articles for
French magical journal, "Magicus". Studied
mime with Chuin from the Compagnie Marcel Marceau. |

Exchange student in Buenos Aires. Attained third
prize in Close-up Magic at national convention,
"Encuentro Mágico Métropolitano".
First street performances in La Recoleta and San
Isidro (Buenos Aires). |

Returned
to London. Resident close-up magician at Deals West,
Deals Chelsea Harbour restaurant and Holly's Bar

Worked as a full-time English teacher in Osaka,
Japan. Spent weekends doing magic shows in large
hotels, amusement parks, shopping centres and department
stores. Also performed in various benefit gigs in
aid of victims of the Kobe earthquake (February
